We are currently in the Golden Age of Television. Television is more accessible than it has ever been, whether you’re watching it week-to-week or binging it in one sitting on Netflix or Hulu or Amazon-Prime, or whatever else there is. Now is the time to start watching because not only is it accessible, it’s good. Amazing even. The problem then becomes what do I watch? More importantly what tv shows to watch right now? Never fear. I have suggestions.
1. This Is Us
If you are not watching this show yet, do it. This is a show to watch write now. This show had the best pilot of a series I have ever seen, so you’ll get hooked the minute the first episode ends. On imdb.com the log-line is as follows, “This Is Us Follows a unique ensemble, as their paths cross and their life stories intertwine, from sharing the same birthday, to so much more than anyone would expect.” It is so much more than that. If you want a show that is bound to choke you up every episode this is it. The acting is award-worthy and the writing is superb. Don’t miss out on this, every one is talking about it.
2. You’re The Worst
Called the best show on TV no one is watching which is good and bad cause that means it’s really good, but no one is watching it. So watch it. It follows two awful, self destructive people who fall in love and try their damnedest to have a relationship. This show is a wonderful thoughtful comedy that has tons of heart and keeps you rooting for them to both stay together and break-up, which makes great television.
3. The Last Man on Earth
Currently in it’s third season and has never been better. Last Man on Earth is about a Phil “Tandy” Miller who believes he’s the last man on earth after a virus has wiped out the whole human race, until of course he finds out there are other survivors and they join together to create a mishmash little family. It’s a wacky show with witty dialogue and a story with a ton of heart. You’ll be laughing and tearing up at the same time as you watch this unique family of survivors try to do just that, survive.
If you can watch HBO this is the show you should watch right now. Since it is almost impossible to explain, here is the IMDB log-line, “a Western-themed futuristic theme park, populated with artificial intelligence, allows high-paying guests to live out their fantasies with no consequences or retaliation from the android hosts, until now.” Westworld is probably one of the best shows I watched throughout 2016. It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire 10 episodes. If you like a show with an amazing script, the best actors in the business (Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel-Wood, James Marsden), and twists and turns that you will never see coming this is the show to watch right this minute.
5. The OA
For Netflix watchers, this is one. This is what you do on your Friday night. Watch this show. From IMDB, again, “having gone missing seven years ago, the previously blind Prairie returns home, now in her 20s with her sight restored. While many believe she is a miracle, others worry that she could be dangerous.” This show is full of intrigue and mystery and thrill. If you are looking for the show to fill your Stranger Things void, this is it. The OA is the kind of show that will strike you to your core, shake you up, and leave you breathless. Watch it. Right now.
There you have, five tv shows to watch right now. If you’re like me at all you’ll be back here next week looking for other suggestions because you’ll blow through these within three days. Have fun!
